BELMONT COUNTY, Ohio — Candidate for Ohio Auditor of State Zack Space stopped in Bellaire Wednesday afternoon during his tour along the Ohio River.
Space is finishing his “Ohio River Tour to Restore” beginning in Scioto County three days ago and finishing in Jefferson County Wednesday night. He says it's about creating a fair playing field for everyone throughout Ohio.
"It shouldn't matter what your zip code is, where you live,” Space said. “It's about restoring fundamental principles of democracy."
Space visited the Veterans Service Office in Bellaire to talk with local veterans, ranging in age and military branch.
Space says that he wants to see veterans taken care of.
"Ohio generally has a higher than average number of veterans,” Space said. “It's an important part of our community. These folks have given a lot to us, and we want to make sure that the state of Ohio is giving back to them and providing them the benefits and the services that they deserve."
In addition to gaining support for his race for state auditor, space hopes to encourage more people to vote, and encourage them that their vote matters.
"We're trying to give people a reason to come out,” Space said. “We think the best way is to be honest with them about the way the process works right now and come up with some constructive ideas and suggestions on how we can do better."
Space wrapped up his tour Wednesday evening, making his final stop in Jefferson County.
