COLUMBUS -- Former U.S. Congressman Zack Space today reported raising $351,839.66 on the Pre-Primary Finance Report filed by his campaign for Ohio Auditor of State -- the most raised by any Auditor of State candidate in the Pre-Primary period on record. Since forming his campaign committee just 10 months ago, Space has raised more than $705,000.
Space’s likely Republican opponent, Keith Faber, reported raising $206,207.17 in the Pre-Primary period, and has raised a total of $621,074.17 this cycle after declaring for Auditor 16 months ago. Faber also personally loaned his campaign $30,000 in January.
“By setting a new Pre-Primary fundraising record in the race for Auditor of State, and by outraising Keith Faber for the second straight period, Zack Space has again proven our campaign’s momentum in this race,” said Campaign Manager Matt Hennessey. “Ohioans are desperate for a leader to kick the door down in Columbus and clean-up the culture of corruption, self-dealing, and pay-to-play rampant among incumbent officeholders. This record-breaking filing reflects the strong support for Zack Space and our message of change that we see every day on the campaign trail.”
“Even with campaign contributions from some of Ohio’s most corrupt figures -- such as ECOT founder Bill Lager and associates ($34,013) and disgraced ex-Speaker Cliff Rosenberger ($14,850) -- Keith Faber’s sputtering campaign is unable to keep pace. The fact that Keith Faber has allowed this tainted campaign cash to sit in his account is just another indicator that Faber’s principal motives in public life are to accumulate campaign cash and to advance his own career. Ohioans deserve better.”
The Space campaign reported 698 unique contributions from 54 Ohio counties. 83% of Space’s contributions came from Ohioans, corresponding to 74% of the total amount raised. Space has $430,589.92 on-hand.
